Notifications Doing Your Head In?

Are all those notifications doing your head in? šŸ¤ÆšŸ¤Æ

I work across multiple platforms these days, and we all work at different times.

Whether it’s time zones or just different hours we like to work, there’s always this awkward feeling about sending a message at what might be seen as a ā€œrudeā€ time for the recipient.

With most apps, you can either stop, mute, suspend or even specify exact times you want to receive notifications!!

Slack is awesome. I’ve set times I can be notified as a default, on evenings and weekends, but I can also turn them off when I’m focusing on a particular task.

Asana is even better! You can really drill down on what notifications you want, and when. You can turn on/off both browser notifications AND email notifications. I found I was getting email AND browser pings every time something was done, and it was really frustrating.

So I’ve now turned email notifications off completely and fine tuned my browser notifications.

Facebook and Messenger I always now turn off when I’m working on something, or when I just need peace and quiet. These two are definitely the biggest culprits šŸ˜³

You also can schedule sending your emails, so when you’re working at night, emails will go out at a more ā€œrespectableā€ time, avoiding those late night email chats……. šŸ˜

I often will work late at night/early mornings, and I always hope that whoever I’m messaging has theirs turned off if it’s not a convenient time.  Some I know do have them turned off, which is GREAT.

We all need boundaries and with more of us working online than ever, it’s important that we create these boundaries and stick to them.

Those who know me from my other business and my blog know I’m very big on self care, and avoiding burnout, having crashed and burned spectacularly more than once. Little things like turning off notifications can help so much, I’ve really felt a difference!

Turn off those notifications NOW!!
