Should I Be Posting Every Day?

Continuing on this months focus on content, a common question I hear is “should I post every day?”

Spoiler alert. No, you don’t. But there’s a caveat on this.

In a perfect world, everyone who follows you would see everything you post, and posting every day would get super repetitive.

But this is not that world. On Facebook alone, an organic post (ie, no paid ads, boosts etc) is lucky to reach 5-10% of your followers!! Sometimes you strike it lucky and a post goes off, all by itself.

The algorithm is pretty abysmal, to say the least, and other platforms aren’t much better. So you really don’t need to worry about pissing your followers off with your “constant stream of daily posts”

In fact, you could post a couple of times a day, and while you would reach more people, it still is unlikely to be seen as spamming everyone.

This is a case of do as I say, not as I used to do. Last year I fell in the trap of not posting on my own platforms, because I was busy doing my clients social media, so it’s looked a bit unloved and I’m just now bringing it into 2022 with more regular posts. But I want to say this:

• One post a week or less – Really not enough, unless you don’t mind the sound of crickets.

• Two posts a week – Hmmm yeah, ok, you’re doing a bit better, but can we step it up a bit?

• Three posts a week – Huzzah, you’re more likely to be seen, and if we change up the topics on each post, there’s no WAY you can be seen to be spammy.

• Four + posts per week – Now you’re talking. Much more chance of being seen, being remembered, and building that whole know, like and trust that we hear so much about.

But it all comes down to this – the best number of posts per week is the number you can commit to doing regularly. Don’t just post every now and again and wonder why no one is beating down your door.

It’s because they may not have remembered you exist.

If you can do 1-2 posts per week, EVERY week, then for now, that’s the best number for you. If you can commit to more, or you have someone to do it for you – then do that and your audience will love you for it. (Psssst, if you need someone to do it all for you, I know this VA, she’s pretty cool, and she likes to talk..)

My last post, I talked about planning out your posts – figuring out what you want to talk about. Did you get started on that yet? It’s still the best place to start.

Get your posts planned and have a think about what you can stick to. This is just like I say to my ladies in my other business – What exercise can you fit into your life right NOW? Do what you can commit to and you won’t feel bad about it. Build up if you need to. If you currently post once a month at best, then start with once a week, every week. When that feels easy, make it twice a week, then thrice. (Thrice sounds so fancy, right?)

So no, you don’t have to post every single day. But trust me when I say you will be seen a hell of a lot more if you do, your clients will get to know you better, and when they want that special thing you provide/sell – they will think of you first, because they see you and they trust you.
