Do I Have To Post On EVERY Platform?

There's so many places you can advertise your business these days, and the idea that you have to post on all of them can be mind boggling.

Facebook? | Instagram? | LinkedIn? | Twitter? | YouTube? | Pinterest? | Google My Business?

The list goes on and on, and it's easy to get sucked in to thinking you need to have a presence on them all. It gets pretty overwhelming, right?

Can I just say, first up...

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ON THEM ALL AT ONCE!

It's easy to think you will be seen more if you're on them all, but if you're doing them all half assed, then why are you bothering?

For now - Pick one or two. Do them well, and make them the places your ideal client is likely to be hanging out on. No idea where that is? Here's some stats....

• Facebook has around 2.8 BILLION users. Nuts, right? Of those users, just over half are male, and 25-35 year olds make up the largest age group, closely followed by 18 to 24 year olds and then 35-44 year olds.
• Instagram has about 1 billion users, with 57% of them being female. The age range is pretty even between 18 to 24 and 25-34 year olds both being around 31% each. 35 to 44 year olds make up about 16%
• LinkedIn has around 938 million users and the gender split is almost equal. with 46-55 year olds being the largest age group.
• Pinterest (one of my favourites) has around 400 million users, and about 78% female. The biggest group of ages is 30-49.
• Twitter is still a thing, believe it or not, and currently has around 187 million users! The makeup is around 68% male, and the 30-49 age group taking up around 44% of the users.
• Tiktok isn't for everyone, however there is now about 100 million users, with the most popular age group being 18-24 at about 28% of the users, 35-34 year olds are about 25% and 35-44 year olds at 18%.
• If your target market is the younger folk, keep Snapchat in mind. It's still around, and has huge growth in the GenZ population - 265 million users, about 58% female and 13-34 year olds make up 75% of them!!! Not a platform we might consider usually, but it does have it's place.
• Google My Business - Worldwide, there is over 3.5 billion searches per day!!! Particularly for local businesses, Google My Business is somewhere you NEED to be. It's free. It doesn't require heaps of posting, but you do need to be present so people know you exist!!
• Finally, YouTube. 2 Billion users, 15-24 year olds make up the biggest chunk of users and 62% of them log in DAILY.

There's so many platforms you could be on, but some may not be super relevant to your particular business, and that's ok. LinkedIn is amazing for professionals and services, and for connecting with the decision makers and CEOs. Instagram is great for very visual businesses. TikTok is great for catchy, on trend videos. Not every platform will be right for you. So the first step is to decide - where do you think your ideal customer is hanging out?

Why not do a poll on the social media you already have and ask them? It's another idea for some content, and you get valuable insight into where you will find your ideal customer.
Once you've decided, focus on those one or two places and DO. THEM. WELL. Be relevant and show up. Be consistent. Once you've really nailed a couple of platforms, by all means, add another one in! But don't burn yourself out trying to be everywhere at once.

Whatever platform you choose: Don't go in half assed with no plan and hope for the best. Figure out what you're going to do and make a plan. Take a look at my previous article on planning your social media out each month. If you need some help with this, talk to me!! Send me a private message and we can chat. You've probably noticed, I like to talk, and I can help you with that too.
