Can you REALLY help your clients save money?

Normally yes, whether it be in tax, accounting fees, bookkeeping packages. We always look at the "big" picture and make sure our clients are getting bang for their buck!

Can a client make their Accounting fees less with some DIY?

Yes, but that doesn't always work for all. Some people are just not accounting minded, and this is where the cost can go up considerably if the accountant/bookkeeper have to fix a lot of stuff up. For some clients is more valuable that they do what they are good at and pay an accountant/bookkeeper to reconcile etc. But we always like to point out tips like Bank Rules in Xero, showing clients how to quickly reconcile. Another thing we do is when a client is unsure about how to do something we will send a step by step (including screenshots) explanation, so that they can always go back to it next time. We never push a client to do things our way, we would rather the client works how they are comfortable but like to point out things they could do themselves to save us time, questions, etc.
